Good MORNING! Today is a Beautiful day. I’m writing this from Long Island City, NY. NEW YORK. I literally have to pinch myself because how did I get here, I don’t know, I don’t care… moving to New York has been amazing and I LOVE IT HERE!!!
If you’ve read my previous posts there’s a few years of catching up to do. A lot. Of catching up. And I will do all that… in a future post. For right now, a quick little recap. After my third baby I wanted to work again. I created a business called Brick Street Furniture Co + Wine Lounge with my then husband. A business that I loved, created and called my fourth baby. Said husband and I got divorced. Signed over company and he continues to run B Street while I went to work for a new company. Moved to CO to further my job career, covid hit, lost job and started design work for a new company. Currently looking for more design work. During that, met my now fiancé who was also my boss for a short time lol.
Whew! Talk about stepping out of the comfort zone. Change is a must in my life obviously, but let’s go back to savoring the moment and this incredible opportunity.
I mean, I’m from Kansas. Smallll town KS. Population 2550 kind of small. Sure I’ve lived in the city, as a nanny in Indy at age 18 (which btw, was INCREDIBLE) and then moved to Kansas City which always feels more like Home than anywhere. And most recently lived in Castle Rock, CO. Also amazing, some wonderful people I love dearly are still there. And if you go, you MUST check out Great Divide Brewery downtown Castle Rock. Amazing vibe and delicious food! Oh and Christmas.. if you have a chance to visit Castle Rock at Christmas, it is a delight there! Obviously we’ll be visiting. And even though Christmas is long past I can’t resist showing this short video I took this past Christmas of the most amazing tree.
But this is different.
This is exactly where I’m meant to be right now. You know how environment shapes a person’s identity? For example Linguistic Identity… Language and Culture can feel like home, and creates a safe space for someone. This sounds crazy, and I’ve only lived here a week now but this is the FIRST time I’ve felt my environment to feel like My Home. I have no idea how that’s possible, but it’s awesome and everything is directing me towards my purpose.
I’ve always had a dream to live in NY. So when my fiancé got offered a position here and asked if I wanted to move to New York, that was met with an enthusiastic HELL YES. So with help from our amazing friends and family to pack us, (BLESS THEM) we made our quick teary goodbyes.
We took several days to make the move to New York. The first couple days were from CO, then KS to be with my kids, St Louis to see the Arch, and a night in Louisville. We stayed in Aloft in KC and Louisville which are pet friendly for our Great Dane Crimson. Wonderful hotels btw..with or without a pet! Made a stop in Spruce Creek PA for a day to see Kevins parents, took a tour of State College, (his old stomping grounds) and finally arrived in Long Island City, New York!
I can’t get enough of this adorable city! There is a window in every room of our new apartment and the natural light that comes in is the best mood booster you can imagine. Have I mentioned the doormen downstairs?! Omg they are the NICEST EVER.
When we first looked at this apartment I remember coming into the lobby and the first thing I noticed was how friendly the doorman was to us. I was thinking, this one is going to be the ONE. And when we opened the door to look at the apartment… I felt it. That feeling you’re looking for in a home, it’s just there. Where you don’t have to try to make it homey it just feels GOOD. The brightness of the spacious apartment had us sold in no time. And I’m looking forward to going out the front revolving door the next time just to say hello to our fabulous doormen. (Still working on their names, so look forward to being introduced.)
The kids will all be home over spring break and I’m so looking forward to having them in my arms at last. I miss them incredibly much every day. The best part is… they are going to love so many things here too. EVERYONE has a dog, and they are going to love taking Crimson to the dog park and meeting the cute doggies. There are kids parks and museums but mostly they’re going to love the doormen lol! Can’t wait to show my little social butterflies this special place we will call home.
With all of this change and moving to New York, I’ve chosen to jump back on my blog and write again. Much more freely. Another call to my life coach is also in short order.. If you’ve read my previous posts, I do talk about Megan a lot. So, if you’re interested in finding a Life Coach I HIGHLY recommend her. Excited to share my journey of continuing to fulfill purpose and passion in my life.
Much love to you and thanks for following. xoxo
